PERFORMANCE DIVISION
Novice:
Has never competed in a dance competition. If a competitor has competed in a group/line but not in a duet/trio or solo, they may enter Novice for the duet/trio or solo; if they have competed in a Duet/Trio, but it’s the first time in a solo category they may enter novice. A group or line must be 75% novice dancers. Entries eligible for Novice overalls ONLY.
Minor:
Dancers who train 5 hours or less per week. Group or line entries must be 75% minor dancers. Entries are eligible for Minor overalls ONLY.
Major:
Dancers who train more than 5 hours per week and have previous competitive experience. All Major entries are eligible for overall awards and Top Breakthru Award.
Pro-Am:
A competitor whose MAIN source of income is supplied through professional performing and/or choreographing and would be completely independent from any financial support and have a self sufficient lifestyle.
Adult:
20 years of age and over. No professional experience. Entries are not eligible for overall awards.
DANCE FORMS
The following categories may contain no more than 2 acro tricks. An acro trick is defined as any movement where the hips pass over top of the shoulders. (*Illusions are not considered an acro trick)
- Jazz - Routines must consist primarily of jazz technique. Partnering tricks that end up with partner’s feet over shoulders are allowed.
- Lyrical - Movement and technique demonstrating emotional interpretation of the lyrics and feel of the music.
- Modern/Contemporary - a collection of contemporary styles incorporating lyrical, jazz and/or modern movements
- Tap - Routines must contain tap technique. No pre-recorded tap tracks allowed in music.
- Ballet - Routines must consist of ballet technique containing classical movements. No pointe shoes allowed.
- Pointe - Routines must contain ballet technique demonstrated in pointe shoes.
The following categories may contain acro tricks:*
- Open - Routines consisting of and/or combining any of our listed dance style categories. Open routines may contain a maximum of 5 acro tricks.
- Acro - Routines that consist of both acrobatic/gymnastic and dance techniques. An acro trick is deifined as any movement where the hips pass over top of the shoulders.
- Hip Hop - Routines containing hip hop technique (styles such as breakdancing, funk, freestyle, etc.) Music containing inappropriate lyrics will result in a scoring deduction.
- Musical Theatre - Routines portraying a character throughout. Lip syncing and all forms of dance are permitted.
- Song and Dance - Routines containing both singing and dancing. No pre recorded lyrics in music permitted.
- Production - A routine containing 15+ performers portraying a theme or story while incorporating any style of dance.
